Coming Soon
Well, more like 'coming sooner or later'. I'll get it online eventually.
But I've been working on this (in several incarnations) for a good 8 months
at least... so, yeah, not like I'm rushing to get it done.
Ah, but when it is done, its gonna be fantastic (shuddup, it is, okay?
cos i say so).
As you can see on the left, there's several main areas. In no particular
order:
- News: This section is pretty easy to grasp by its name. Basically,
people will be able to contribute by posting little summaries of current
news about anything. It'll be recommended that this is accompanied by
at least one link from their source (ie. a newspaper website). The more
links, and the broader the viewpoints covered, the better. As with all
the other items, you'll be able to associate events, blog entries, gallery
items to a single news item.
- Events: Very similar to news. Where people can post details of music
gigs, LANs, protests, community meetings, festivals, whatever. Also
has the associated news, events, et al.
- Blogs: This will be kept limited to senior members of the site, just
to keep the size under control (and there's other sites out there better
suited to free blogging/journalling). Basically, if you can prove you
are an active member, and have clear interests in certain areas, then,
if you wish, you can blog away to your heart's content.
- The Gallery: this is similar to the blogs in the way that not anyone
can post their works (whether it be photos, art, poetry, stories, lyrics,
whatever) - only those accepted. The process for someone wanting to
display their work here will be for them to submit a small portfolio,
and that will be examined by senior members, and, by and large, I imagine
most people will be allowed to post their work.
The discussion section is just a message board, pretty much. Anyone can
post there.
Of course, as you can probably see, there's gonna be an extensive hierarchy
tied in with all this. I spose the main reason is I don't want anybody
just signing up, posting, then disappearing again. I'd like to build a
community site here. But yeah, there's gonna be rules and whatnot, but
I'm not gonna get bogged down in all that now.
Also, all news, events, blogs and gallery works will be able to be linked
to locations and sections, and they'll both be at a number of levels...
ie. from Melbourne, to all of Australia as single locations, and from,
say, Literature and Books, down to Discworld, as separate sections. This
may not all be clear now, but when I eventually get it all up and running,
it should make sense (I hope).
So, um, yeah, that's my plan. I'm hoping it works... I'm hoping it works
brilliantly... but we'll just have to wait and see. |
