* How to Become an Official

To cut a long story short, Miles Newman has put together the manual on how to become an Official and what you need to do to STAY qualified.  The Australian Sports Commission claim it to be the BEST submission they have seen and for the second time it has achieved Best Practice certification.

OFFICIATING INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION

Capability Objective

An Officiating Instructor is the supervisor and quality controller of the standards of training received by officials.  As such, an Officiating Instructor should not only be a senior and experienced official but also be able to conduct courses and assess the quality of training received.

This is a specialized certification that not all officials may wish to seek.

 

To certify as AGOA Officiating Instructor the trainee MUST:

·         Complete the AGOA training Level 3 training program

·         Deliver 100% of the AGOA lessons

·         Complete the Instructor Development Course

·         Complete the ASC - SES Coaching Level 2

·         Participate in the AGCA Level 1 Training Program

·         Be an accredited Level 2 official for 2 years

·         Participate in officiating instruction with the state GOA

·         Pass rules, mechanics and instructional technique exams at 85% level

·         Be certified by AGOA

 

Invitation to Certify.  The AGOA National Director of Training will issue an invitation to certify as Instructors to Officials recommended by the state Training Manager.  The nominees must have completed the prerequisites stated above.  State GOA may use senior officials as Instructors.

This program may be taken over a period of time and in parallel with other qualifications and certifications.

TRAINING PROGRAM

Pre Course

·         Be qualified as an AGOA Level 2 for 24 months prior to commencement of the Officiating Instructor course

·         Be prepared to study and commit to training for a period of at least 6 months

·         Submit a paper / project on a set topic - eg How to organise a lesson

In Course

·         The course is to include 6 days of workshop / formal study.

·                Participation in the AGOA/AGCA Instructor Development course (30 hours)

·                Participation in one ACS-SES recognised coaching course or instructor development course.

Post Course

·         The post course activities are to include:

·                90 hours practical - comprising instructing, participating in sanctioned seminars, and preparation to be recorded in the Officials Log Book
