* How to Become an Official

To cut a long story short, Miles Newman has put together the manual on how to become an Official and what you need to do to STAY qualified.  The Australian Sports Commission claim it to be the BEST submission they have seen and for the second time it has achieved Best Practice certification.

Level 1 OFFICIAL

CAPABILITY OBJECTIVE

A Level 1 official is able to officiate at a local league level. Usually only in junior crew positions on a 5 Man Crew, that is Line Judge, Linesman and Back Judge. 

To qualify as AGOA Level 1 the trainee MUST:

·         Complete the AGOA training Level 1 training program.

·         Complete the AGOA Level 1 exam to a 65% Pass.

·         Complete 10 Grade 1 games or 30 hours practice under supervision.

·         Complete 2 on-field assessments to an AVERAGE standard with some Below Average.

·         Be deemed suitable by the state GOA.

·         Be accredited by AGOA National Director of Training

 

Some Level 1 officials (usually ex-players) may be considered suitable to work as Umpire.

TRAINING PROGRAM

Pre Course

·         Be prepared to study and commit to training for a period of at least 3 months or one season of officiating practice.

In Course

·                The course is to include 2 days of workshop / formal study.

·                All the subjects listed in the Level 1 Course Overview as a formal course

Post Course

·         The post course activities are to include:

·                Completion of the Level 1 Examination to a pass mark of 65%

·                Rules and Mechanics Examination (100 questions mixed multiple choice, situation assessment)

·                30 hours practical - comprising games, participating in sanctioned GOA events, and preparation to be recorded in the Officials Log Book

·                Participation in 10 Grade 1 games
