* How to Become an Official

To cut a long story short, Miles Newman has put together the manual on how to become an Official and what you need to do to STAY qualified.  The Australian Sports Commission claim it to be the BEST submission they have seen and for the second time it has achieved Best Practice certification.

Level 2 OFFICIAL

Capability Objective

A Level 2 official is able to officiate at local league level up to and including the Referee position, playoff series as a junior official or representative games as a junior official under supervision.

This is the senior level for state based official.

This is the minimum standard for an AGOA Certified Referee.

An official can claim AGOA accreditation only if they use the assessment methods and standards in this program.

To qualify as AGOA Level 2 the trainee MUST:

·         Complete the AGOA Level 2 training program.

·         Complete the AGOA Level 2 exam to a 75% Pass.

·         Complete 30 Grade 2 games or 2 seasons or 60 hours practical experience under supervision after completing Level 1.

·         Complete 2 on-field assessments to an AVERAGE standard with some Above Average.

·         Participate in the training program for a minimum of 12 months.

·         Participate in one state finals series.

·         Participate in the development and management of the state GOA.

·         Be involved in mentoring and instructing junior officials.

·         Be deemed suitable by the state GOA.

·         Be accredited by AGOA National Director of Training

TRAINING PROGRAM

Pre Course

·         Be  qualified as an AGOA Level 1 for 12 months prior to commencement of the Level 2 course

·         Be prepared to study and commit to training for a period of at least 12 months

In Course

·         The course is to include 4 days of workshop / formal study.

·                All the subjects listed in the Level 2 Course Overview either as a formal course or by correspondence

·                Participation in state and regional Championship events including preparation, debriefing and game review.

Post Course

·         The post course activities are to include:

·                Completion of the Level 2 Examination to a pass mark of 75%

·                Rules and Mechanics Examination (150 questions mixed multiple choice, situation assessment)

·                60 hours practical - comprising games, participating in sanctioned state level events, preparation to be recorded in the Officials Log Book

·                Participation in 30 Grade 2 games
