RECENT CHANGES

* How to Become an Official

To cut a long story short, Miles Newman has put together the manual on how to become an Official and what you need to do to STAY qualified.  The Australian Sports Commission claim it to be the BEST submission they have seen and for the second time it has achieved Best Practice certification.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the AUSTRALIAN GRIDIRON OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION (AGOA) web page. We trust you will find something of interest no matter what your level, interest or experience from spectator to senior official.

We also hope you enjoy the page and, as a student of our game you will visit us regularly using the references as a tool.  (As they come online.)

Our "ASK AN OFFICIAL" area will prove an invaluable aid to reinforce and improve your knowledge.  There are no stupid questions!  You may well find an answer in this section that were too scared to ask as our data base of FAQ's grows.  We expect some will use this particular section because of a brainwave idea for a play that you wish the check for legality before running it in match conditions.

Our Mission (as lifted from our constitution)

'TO PROVIDE WORLD CLASS OFFICIALS FOR GRIDIRON IN AUSTRALIA'

AGOA Objectives (as lifted from our constitution)

(3) The objectives of the Association shall be:-

(a) to represent all Gridiron Officials

(b) to promote fellowship amongst all officials

(c) to develop professionally and personally through training and accreditation.

(d) To assist the development of the sport of Gridiron in Australia

To this end, we have developed strong working relationships with our State Bodies. Gridiron Australia (GA) and the Australian Gridiron Coached Association (AGCA) also share close ties with us and we are represented at GA level.  Due to our membership of GA, we also are an affiliated member of the (INTERNATIONAL THINGY)

We have also developed a successful National Training Program that has been implemented on a State by State basis turning out qualified officials with the knowledge to Officiate local matches on completion. (see How to Become an Official).  We also use the grading system of the NCAA from the United States which enable us to compare our Officials on a World Wide basis.

AGOA provides ALL Officials to the National Championships most recently held in January 2001.
