PREMIER OF AWARD WINNING FILM "Freedom from Despair”

Friday, October 28, 2005 at 7 pm

Croatian Club Punchbowl

$15 adults; $10 pensioners: www.freedomfromdespair.com

TRUE STORIES OF THE CROATIAN PEOPLE'S STRUGGLE TO OVERCOME OPPRESSION FROM COMMUNIST YUGOSLAVIA AND THE 1990's FIGHT TO SAVE THEIR WAR RAVAGED HOMELAND.

“Freedom from Despair is a powerful, moving film, documenting a much neglected piece of modern history - Croatia’s struggle for independence from the repression of Tito’s Yugoslavia and the brutality of the Balkan War. Brenda Brkusic has created a memorable portrait of a people, a culture, and one man’s hard-fought journey to freedom.”
-David S. Ward, Academy Award Winning Filmmaker

The choir was established fifty years ago by the Jewish Community in Zagreb, wishing to contribute to the preservation of the original Jewish vocal melos. At the same time due attention is given to performing Croatian and international classical and contemporary works. The choir has performed in most European countries, twice in the USA, and five times in Israel, and very successfully took part at numerous international competitions and festivals. With numerous ecumenical and inter-religious concerts the choir is contributing to peace and friendship between people of different religions and from different countries.

ERIKA BECK’S EXHIBITION

Official opening Saturday November 26, 2005 2pm to 4pm

(Duration 24 Nov to 1. December   opening time 9am to 5pm)

Gallery 307, 307 Sailors Bay Road, Northbridge

AMAC members are invited to the official opening of Erika’s latest exhibition.

The exhibition co-incides with the Willoughby Arts Festival in which the gallery and its attached Art School participate.

Artist and lecturer Garry Foye will open the exhibition. To make the opening a bit more exciting, Lucy Voronov on the cimbalom has agreed to give a recital together with Peter Huck on the guitar. She is quite an accomplished performer and composer, and has certainly impressed all of us who were guests at the recent Pedro’s party.

You can find more details on Erika’s website www.erikabeck-artist.com.
