I started writing this on my other website but the server there seems to be overloaded.

Here're some gems

ZDNet article on Linux Security

Yeah right. So don't run any applications on it. Use it as a doorstop.

Have you met people who really want the web to be a book? Well, for nostalgia show them the http://www.this-page-intentionally-left-blank.org/ website.

Recently, many people have nearly fallen off the edge of the web. Go no further than http://www.shibumi.org/eoti.htm

Know a guy called Reggie Moore? He's one of BMC Software's VPs. He's been quoted to say:

"If this is Cinderella,'' said Reggie Moore, BMC's vice-president of technology planning in service management, "we want to make sure we're the escort.''

referring to IBM's z/OS plan to go for subscription payments. He also says:

"This isn't a PC,'' BMC's Moore said. "You don't drop in a new operating system and go.''

Microsoft writes really good KB (KnowledgeBase) articles. Here's one:

Q281923 - Hair Color of the Person Icon for a User Group Becomes Gray If the Group Contains More Than 500 Users

Steve Ballmer's never seen HAL.

In Microsoft to unveil .NET software for non-Microsoft platforms, Steve is quoted:

Asked whether he was disappointed that the world has yet to see a real HAL, the menacing yet highly intelligent computer in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey," Ballmer made an unlikely confession.

"In the spirit of frankness and directness of the 21st Century, I never saw the movie," he said. "To most people at Microsoft, HAL stands for hardware application layer."

In Q295279 - Web Proxy Service Crashes If URL Requests a Specifically Malformed Argument, Microsoft states:

"A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article and should be applied only to systems that are determined to be at risk of attack."

Yeah, this isn't any Web Proxy, this is your Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000! Of course it will be at risk from attack.

In Q276304 - Error Message Your Password Must Be at Least 18770 Characters and Cannot Repeat Any of Your Previous 30689 Passwords

"Your password must be at least 18770 characters and cannot repeat any of your previous 30689 passwords. Please type a different password. Type a password that meets these requirements in both text boxes."
