Bare Island Fort

Bare Island Fort was built in 1885 both to protect Sydney's back door and to repel a possible attack on the colony's water supply in the Botany Wetlands.    However it was poorly constructed and a royal commission investigated the work of the building contractors and government officials.    This led to the resignation in disgrace of the Colonial Architect James Barnet, who is more widely known for designing many of the beautiful sandstone buildings in Sydney.   Though bristling with guns, the fort was soon made redundant by advancing technology and was decommissioned just after the turn of the 20th century.

Stop those pesky unwanted telephone calls with the DO NOT CALL register

- An Australian Government Initiative  www.donotcall.gov.au

Which numbers can I list on the Do Not Call Register?

You can list your Australian fixed line and mobile numbers on the Do Not Call Register, provided the numbers are used primarily for private or domestic purposes.

How does the register work?

Under the Do Not Call Register Act 2006, telemarketers can check their calling lists against the Do Not Call Register. If a telemarketer calls a number on the Do Not Call Register, they may be in breach of the Act, and may face penalties.
