Communication Strategy

Communication Strategy

Partnerships in Catholic Educational Leadership is part of the leadership development strategy of the Catholic Schools Office, Waitara developed on behalf of staff working within schools in the Broken Bay diocese

An electronic newsletter will be the avenue through which members of the various research groups liaise with each other and the project officer. This will also provide a conduit to Principals of all schools within the diocese who may wish to be kept informed of the progress of the overall programme and the projects themselves.

Programme website

The website provides programme participants with an accessible, first-point-of-call resource of information about the Partnerships in Catholic  Educational Leadership programme. This includes an overview of the programme, a time line and anticipated programme outcomes.

It is  a safe website designed to support the programme participants through the provision of information, online support and exchange of ideas for the duration of the project overall. This means that  most of  the site will be available only  to those participants who have been accepted onto the programme.

It is expected that that the web site will continue to be operational until at least the completion of the initial programme involving the first cohort of participants ie June 2001.

Functions of the website

The website is built around the following functions:

  • general information about the programme and the steering committee
  • a repository for resources to support research project teams
  • a discussion forum for supporting project-related dialogue
  • a general site search
  • contact information and e-mails
  • Levels of access

The website development team is conscious of the need to balance security with accessibility in the design of the site. The current security model has three levels of access designed to support the widest possible dissemination of information while retaining necessary security over project specific details. The three levels are as follows:

 Public

The website is partially viewable to the non-participant public. The part of the website that is unprotected is the section which provides general information about the project called About.

 Participant – General

All programme participants have access (upon provision of a password) to the discussion forum. This level is intended as the main interaction environment for programme participants.

 Project –Specific

Each project research team has password access to the information stored in the database on its own project. This data is editable, and teams are responsible for ensuring that their project descriptions are informative and current

The actual site will initially be quite simple in its layout and content base and will have the following fields:

About

This section provides a context for the leadership programme, its rationale, protocols and outcomes.

 Project overview

Research projects will be documented re the nature of their research and any other relevant information appropriate to the project.

Project Resources

The aim of this part of the website to provide programme participants with a moderated collection of quality resources to support their research. This will be provided by the project officer and will contain electronic down-loadable materials, and references to non-electronic, or copyright protected materials.

It is also intended to include a reciprocal functionality which allows project participants to themselves contribute resources (or information about resources) likely to be useful for other participants.

Discussion Forum

To support the development of participant discourse, a discussion forum is provided as a communal messaging facility. The design of the forum aims to address the need for focussed discussion groups while ensuring that all exchanges are available at a participant level. By ensuring that all messages are at one level viewable by participants, it is hoped that a culture of collaboration and support will emerge.

Contact

Additional project support is provided via a number of direct email links to project support personnel, as well as phone, fax and mail information

Entering your research project information

The research part of the site provides the opportunity for all project teams to identify their areas of research and the research questions they are addressing as part of Partnerships in Catholic Educational Leadership initiative.

This information will, it is hoped, encourage participants to network and exchange information and experiences during their time on the programme.

Communication Strategy

A designated web site will be established for the overall  programme to encourage the communication participants with each other. This will also enhance their networking skills and the practical use of the  internet.

NB Experience in the use of the internet is not a prerequisite for participants but a willingness to learn more about the internet and its applications are.

In addition, an electronic newsletter will be the avenue through which members of the various research groups liase with each other and the project officer. This will also provide a conduit to Principals of all schools within the diocese who may wish to be kept informed of the progress of the overall programme and the projects themselves.
