Candle Magick Basics

Candle Magick is a very effective way to bring about change in your life, and is simple enough for anyone to perform. However, several guidelines do apply. If you do not follow them, that is your choice – you may just get more than you bargained for. You have been warned!
The first step is to define your goal – what is it you wish to manifest? Love, money, employment, fertility, healing, selling/buying a property, the list goes on.
Once decided, chose a candle colour that matches your desire. There are generic lists available, but to truly personalise a spell, it is best to choose the colour yourself. If you were to perform a love spell, which colour do you associate with love? Is it pink, as mainstream society seems to believe? Or is it red, the colour of blood pumping through your heart? Or is it white, because you believe it to be so pure?
Think deeply about your goal, and write a list. This can be in long or short hand, or in symbols, or a combination. Dissect it, examine it from all angles, question it. Does it feel right? Will it harm you or any one else? (Magick should not be used to harm – so if you choose this path, be prepared for the consequences). Is your desire realistic? Wanting a job as a rocket scientist, if you are not qualified, is not realistic.
A list for an employment spell could include: job position, proximity to home, work hours, benefits, ideal salary, flexibility, opportunities.
Be certain of your wording. Saying "I want a Ferrari" is vague. Chances are, you will (a) get a Matchbox ferrari as a gift; or (b) a Ferrari will crash into you on Highway 1 and embed itself into your thigh; or perhaps (c) Uncle John dies in mysterious circumstances - and you inherit his Ferrari.
Before going any farther, consult a moon calender. Spells devised to bring something to you are best performed during a waxing phase or on the full moon. Spells devised to banish something, during the waning phase.
When the time is right, you will need to cleanse the candle. Cleansing removes unwanted negative energies that the candle has absorbed during its journey to you. A basic cleansing is easily achieved by taking the candle outside and holding it up to the sun or the full moon. Visualise the sunlight burning, or the moonlight washing away, any negative energy.
Next, you will "charge" the candle with your desire. You will need something with which to inscribe the candle - a vegetable knife or knitting needle are both useful for this purpose. Inscribe your words from the list onto the candle. For as long as it takes to do this, visualise as much as possible your manifested goal - the end result, rather than events leading up to it. Try to remain focused – your are putting your energy into that candle for a specific purpose. Also, inscribe, or say aloud, a realistic time limit in which the spell is to manifest.
Finally, put the candle in a safe place and light it. Allow it to burn until it extinguishes itself, then bury it in the garden. Keep your list in a safe place.
For the more experienced practitioner, or the confident beginner, other items can be utilised which empower the focus of the spell. For example, for prosperity, you may sit the candle within a circle of coins. For healing, you may include a photo of the recipient.
Most importantly, where appropriate, be active. Seek out your desire. There is no point performing an employment spell if you ignore the job section of the newspaper or fail to distribute your resume.
On the rare occasion that your spell has not manifested within the set time limit, it is best to review the list you wrote. Check if you may have overlooked something, or were unrealistic with your expectations. Make any necessary changes, and perform the spell again.
Remember that the Universe will provide for you only what It thinks is necessary.
