West Papua was a WW-II Ally who saved tens of thosands of American lives, a friend who supplied food, accommodation, workers, and a secure pro-western base for the US forces of Gen. MacArthur to build his headquarters in. It is tragic that certain US companies put their greed above global security. It would be much better for the people of the United States if West Papua were free and independent, another member of the western democratic world instead of a resource for Indonesian military corruption and long term aggression.

Papua is of course the correct name for New Guinea; if you are looking for Papua New Guinea (PNG) then try any travel shop. For Propinsi Papua, Indonesia you are really looking for West Papua, or Western Papua, or Dutch Papua, or Dutch New Guinea. Idonesia has also called it Irian Barat, Irian Jaya, and now Propinsi Papua, Indonesia.

Whatever you call it, Papuans call it West Papua and have suffered Indonesian military occupation since the United Nations signed off on an illegal New York agreement in 1962 between Holland and Indonesia. Example: Carrier Companies

The 'Carrier' business model was created in the nineteenth century, and could justify large per unit call charges (e.g. 20¢/call) to provide their national relay and switch services employing thousands of operators and people repairing mechanical switching and electric relay systems. But in the 1960's the new technology of 'Computer Networking' was created to prevent the high per unit costs which all Carrier profits relied upon. From 1970 to 1990 these two oppersite technologies co-existed because computer networking was still small and immature; but by 1990 it became clear that computer networks could now provide superior services for much less money than the carriers charged. The public & governments had to be stopped before they realized the carriers were already obsolete; to maintain and increase their annual profits, world carriers used two strategies, 1) get Governments to pass Telecommunications laws protecting the carriers from private networks; 2) buy up the existing ISP and University networks to establish control of all communications options.

Carriers needing users to spend more time on-line, now direct Internet technologies into high time and data usage with low productivity to encourage customers to spend more of their income on so-called communications products (dis-services). Further developement of technologies like Xanadu which produced the World Wide Web are now strongly discouraged; and non-productive efforts on the WWW like video mono-streaming are instead encouraged.

The Indonesian invasion of West Papua was not a random event. US firms such as Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. had known & kept secret their 1936 discovery of one of the world's largest Gold & Copper deposits in West Papua. Being both the homeland & sacred mother-mountain of the landowners the US firms wanted the country to remain a COLONY. The death of U.N. Sec. Gen. Hammarskjold in September 1961 silenced the UN calls for West Papua to become independent; and allowed the illegal transfer of West Papua's administration from the Netherlands to Indonesian control, and the use of the U.N. to inflict a Indonesian occupation and colonization of West Papua by 1969. The US public doesn't even know it's been funding the genocide of West Papua for forty years.
