Unidentified Beetle Species
Below are some pics of a beetle species found here in NSW, Australia. The beetles (5 in all) were found under a log in some gumtree bushland. Two of the beetles were a lighter brown, but apart from that there were no noticeable differences between them. When handled or annoyed, they would make a soft hissing noise, appearing to come from the abdomen. The photos were taken on 5mm gridpaper to show size, apologies if the image sizes are too large, but I thought detail might be needed.
News Flash!! These beetles are Passelid or Bess beetles, of the family Passalidae. They are probably of the genus Aulacocyclus
