DONOR INFORMATION TALKS IN VIC

M
onash IVF have been holding information nights for a while now for people considering the use of donor gametes, or who wish to donate. The counselors speak about the issues that will face donors and recipients, and also the differences in legislation, plus many other important issues. A few of our members have spoken at these nights, to give a patient perspective, which has been the most popular aspect of the night. However, as there only seems to be 3 of us who talk, and the seminars run all year, we are hoping to recruit more members to speak.

The nights are held at Richmond and Clayton, with roughly 20 people attending. It may be a bit scary the first time you speak, but the patient's find it invaluable, and long to hear how to cope with these matters. So if you think that you may be able to help us out or would like a bit more information, please contact DCSG on (02) 9793 9335.

The ITA have sent us a number of brochures explaining how the voluntary registers work, and also brochures regarding the rights and responsibilities of both recipients and donors. They have also revised their website to include the guidelines and application forms for the voluntary registers.

CONSUMER ADVOCACY INFO

Last year the ITA ran a symposium called 'The Missing Link - Private Rights and Public Interest in Donor Treatment Procedures Setting the scene - What we have and what we know'

If you are interested in reading the outcome of the proceedings, please visit the ITA website (www.ita.org.au) where you can download the information.

A topic raised at the symposium was 'Reproductive Technology and adoption laws - have your say'. The Victorian Law Reform Commission has released a consultation paper and is currently preparing an options paper.

You can make a submission to the Law Reform Commission. Information on the options paper is available online at http://www.lawreform.vic.gov.au or by calling the commission on 02 8619 8619 or 1300 666 555.

So please put all these dates in you diaries so you know in advance when and where it’s all happening. Our socials are always very relaxed and fun and good friendships and support networks are forged this way. Let’s do it for our kids!
