***DROSCO SOUND TUTORIAL***
(probably the
jiberings from a mad man! lol, good luck!)
First of all I
pressume u have read the Sound Tutorial at the Twisted
Dirt site, if not get it, read it, and do not stray from
those guidlines! This is the important bit:(Extract) Any
sounds you make that you want to be 3D positional sounds,
they should be 16-bit, 22khz MONO.
Stereo samples only work as 2D sounds.
Now u might be thinking like I did that u tried all that
but nothing happens when I try to record my own sounds!,
so this is what I did next,(you try this first to) I
added some sounds to my game from MCM1 and they all work!(If
you cant get them working then trace back you have left
something out!)
So this is what i figured out after that:
You CAN NOT CONVERT a sound from another format, say 44khz
to 22khz or stereo to mono or 8bit to 16bit, it will not
work in the game, when I start my Creative Wav Studio(U
will need a program like Creative Wave Studio, mine came
with my sound blaster CD) it starts a new file at 44khz
and then i was converting to 22khz recording my
sound,didnt work!
So this is what i did next; opened my Creative Wave
Studio closed the new file it started at 44khz and then
just dropped in (or opened up) a MCM1 sound.wav file,
recorded over it, then saved with a new filename and
Whalla! it works! I then just stuck to this routine and
no problems!
OTHER STUFF I FOUND!
*The golden rule- YOU CAN NOT CONVERT (as above)
*Recordings must be as perfect as possible, the recording
and volume level MUST be in the red but MUST NOT be over
the red or it wont work in the game!
*You can adjust the volume level up of the recording in
Wave Studio that works, BUT if you get to much background
noise in the process of doing that it wont work!(so the
clearer and better the recording with the least amount of
background noise has the most chance of working!)
*you can NOT adust the Volume level down though if it is
past the red! it wont work, if the recording is past the
red toss it in the recycle bin and start again!(it will
never work,simple as that,lol)
*You can NOT cut a piece out of the centre of a
recording, it wont work in the game, but you can select a
centre bit and then crop to selection(that works every
time!), U CAN cut bits off the ends of your recording to
shorten it(like cropping)! and fade in and out works well
to!
*When I tried to paste 2 sounds together in wave studio
that didnt work, same as cutting a piece out of the
centre, recordings must be whole not cut, so if you would
like to add 2 sounds together then record them together
as 1 recording, forget about pasteing and cutting it wont
work in the game!
*Play around with stereo and mono recordings(just dont
try to convert) I think sounds like wind going past your
helmet should be stereo, and 3d sounds mono of course!
Think about it play around!
*Check and play around with the mic and mixer settings on
your PC, make sure you dont have more than 1 line and mic
open or you will never get a good recording! If trying to
record sounds from the Television or stereo etc make sure
the mic boost is OFF and that your not recording above
red, recordings above the red will never work in the game!
Hoping this gets your user created sounds going!
Drosco
One late development
is that i ripped a cd with Musicmatch Jukebox the other
day at 44khz dropped it in my wave studio and converted
to 22khz, put it in the game and it worked no probs! So
that puts a question mark over some of the above comments
and conclusions! so play around with your software!
