ABANDONED MILITARY BUILDING
Click the pictures for a larger version. They will open in a new window.
The building sits on a former military installation. Some of the larger buildings have been converted into residential housing, others were knocked down and houses built where they used to sit. There is another military site right across the road. It's down by a river and it used to make explosives. However I think it's been inactive for some time and is used for other purposes now.
Outside
This is the front. You can't make it out in the pic, but it says "1940" in the middle.
Before we go in, i'll take you out back. Notice the room at the very top with the yellow doors. I call this the 'secret room'. I'll get to it later.
We're still at the back, just past the big green structure linking the two sides. It's got two machinery huts. The second pic is looking up from the same spot.
We're in the right (green) hut now. The first picture is looking directly straight at some control panel/fusebox. The second is of the stuff in the cabinet on the left side of the first pic.
We're now in the left (brick) hut. Standing in the doorway, the pics are looking left, straight, right.
Back to the front of the building. This is the entrance.
Level 1
Stepping into the building, and immideately facing left, we see the stairs to the basement in the first pic. Just out of view, to the left on the wall is a fire safety plan. It shows an incomplete map of the area, as well as an incomplete map of the explosives factory complex across the road. The third pic is looking down the stairs at the basement.
Basement
Down the staris and through the doorway is a room. It's door has been knocked down and it contains a plaque - "treatement for electric shock".
Back out of the electrical room and looking to the left we see a hallway. It's extremely dark. On the right hand side we see a heavy steel door. Obviously a vault. The second pic is just past the vault door, into the hallway. I took it using a flash otherwise it would have been pitch black. The third pic is looking into the opposite direction, to the right of the electrical room.
Straight ahead through a second vault door in pic3 above, is a large area. You can't see it from this view, but there is another staircase leading up to level 1.
Level 2
Back to the entrance, and up the stairs to level 2 is shown in the first pic. The second pic is just up those stairs, and looking left. There is a voice telecom type of thing. "Bzzt... let me in". Third pic is looking to the right.
Through the door in pic2 above, we enter a large room. There is an identical room at the end of pic3 above. Every floor has the same basic layout. With minor changes in positions of doorways of small rooms. Pic2: Looks like there is a regular visitor to this floor.
Look at pic3 in the first level 2 set. Just before entering the big room at the end, if we turn left, there is an elevator. Second pic is looking down the shaft. Actually i think these elevator pics are from level 1. But it doesn't matter.
Level 3
This is the most heavily graffittied level. Pic1 is looking right of the stairs. Pic2 is in the large room on the right hand side.
From the big room on the left side of the building, we are looking down at the two huts. The second is just looking in the opposite direction of the building.
The doors from the large rooms on either side of the building lead to the green structure joining them, which is where these photos were taken from. Third pic shows the secret room again.
Level 4
Back inside, up the stairs, looking up at level 4. Not many people have been on level 4. The second picture (looking left) shows why.
To the right of the stairs, and through some pigeon filth. Pic 2: Before getting to the large room on the right hand side of the building, turning left towards the elevator.
Just behind that door in pic2 above hidden out of view, next to the elevator shaft is hidden this staircase. It's the steepest staircase i've seen, with an angle of approximately 70 degrees. Picture two is looking up the stairs obviously. This room is easily missed because the layout on each floor is the same. And it's not exactly fun to go through all this pigeon filth to check out places out of view such as this.
Secret (elevator) room
Looking down the stairs. You can't walk down as you normally would. You must face backwards and go down the way you came up.
The wall to the left of the pic above has a small window. You can see some buildings of the other military complex, just beyond the houses. It doesn't really show the explosives factory, just some buildings in the front of the complex. The explosives buildings are near a river, and some of them have mounds of dirt around them to guide any accidential explosion straight up into the air.
Opposite the window, is some elevator and electrical machinery.
Pic1: "Lift mechanic please fill out this book every visit". Pic2: This entry was done in 1997.
Looking out of the yellow elevator door. You can see where the houses have been built over old military buildings.
