The term Japanese Animation or Anime applies to a class of animation or cartoons. Anime is style of animation with strong foundation in Japan, but not all Anime is actually from Japan. There are many definable differences that can be found in Anime that is not found in other forms of animation. Part of the appeal to animation, both the consumers and the producers, is the ability to have complex scenes to be made without spending millions of dollars. A story writer's grandest scene of an epic adventure on an alien world is just as easily made as a scene where a man sits on a park bench. With animation there is no limit to what can be seen and the Japanese at least have embraced this concept. Japanese animation is not for kids only, far from it. The Japanese see cartoons as a form of entertainment that can appeal to all ages. There are children shows, young teenage shows, young adult shows, and XXX shows can all be classified as Japanese animation. Specific Anime Characteristics: If it's cute, Its Deadly! Many creatures and people in Japanese Animation that are cute are almost among the most powerful in the story. Take for example Ryo-ohki, a creature that looks like a rabbit and meows like a cat. She may look harmlessly cute, but don't let that fool you. Ryo-ohki has the capability to transform into a spaceship with enough firepower to level mountains. I shudder to think what a Care Bear would do in a Japanese Animation world. Big EYES. Most Anime films depict characters with huge eyes. The general reason for this is that eyes are seen as a window into the soul and the larger eyes are meant to give the viewer greater access to the character. Besides, those big eyes make many characters cuter. Hair styles of Anime characters are stylized, unique, and sometimes impossible to have in the real world. Any hair color is possible, be it blond, black, sky blue, light green, orange, pink, all the colors of the rainbow, and even plaid. Hair length is also unusual as most males have shoulder length hair and most females either have really short hair or their hair is at least four feet long. The various way characters wear their hair are used to help depict what a character acts like. Skirt peeks a plenty. Japanese animators are some of the most perverted people on the planet. If there is a girl wearing a skirt, we will see her panties, and if she is in battle, her shirt will rip off, wearing a bra only if show is aimed at those under the age of 20. If the girl transforms her outfit, such as when they go into battle, what she was wearing rips off leaving the her temporally nude and is then clothed into a new outfit. His nose is bleeding! Bleeding noses is used in many Anime films to show a character is having a dirty thought. A strange example of this occurs in a Giant Robo episode (this is a kids show, really) where GenRei, the lead female of the series, has all of her cloths ripped off, we never get to see anything though, and when the other characters come to rescue the main character and his 100+ foot tall robot stop when they see she is naked and their noses bleed. Yes, Giant Robo nose was bleeding gas at the sight of the naked GenRei. I didn't know Robo was fully functional! Face fault is a term used when a character is so shocked by a comment or action they fall down, usually face first. Face faults are normally reserved for the humorous Anime shows like Ranma 1/2. Big sweet. When a character is extremely embarrassed and/or nervous, it is commonly showed by a big drop of sweet forms on their head. Dimensional hammer. In many comedies, especially romantic ones, when a female gets upset at a guy, normally ones they are in love with, she pulls a large hammer or mallet out of nowhere and hits him with it.
