This will offer support for SimmStick, the 30 pin simm socket based Single Board Computer System, and includes support for any hardware or software related product.

It will also allow the group to have access to the achived messages, which the existing sisuser group doesn't offer.

hi there.

wanted to gain more knowledge of pic controllers and there application as a
servo motor controller. want to control servo with midi signals. pupose to
remote control cameras xyz and zoom directions. need 2 stepper motor control
and perhaps 4 digital i/o lines. do you think you can help.

Not nice at all.
Takes a bit of reading I must admit, but it appears that you don't post
anything that could be considered your copyright or property for fear
that you have lost the rights to it due to this legal mumbo jumbo.

They say they have the unrestriced world rights to any thing you post.
Just what do they mean?

Do the avr guys know about this?
I just did a CC to simmstick@e... for comment from the small
group there, which is possibly only a double up from a lot of the users

Hi Paul,

	I have toyed around with the idea several times of making a SimmStick
Basic Stamp II.  I would probably use surface mount parts and offer it
fully assembled & tested.  I know Parallax is getting ready to release the
SX BSII chipset, would this be more interesting to people?  There would be
extra room on the SimmStick, would you like to see any additonal hardware
onboard or just a prototyping area?

Ben, I think the traditional items that are used for beginners would be
good.  Much of that which is found on the Stamp activity board or even your
products.  An ADC, lcd driver and maybe a real time clock option.  I have
invested alot of money in the PIC development tools.  I find it frustrating
to have to download to the PIC everytime.  I like the stamp concept of being
a terminal hooked up to it.  The approach seems alot simpler.  I think this
would also encourage the beginners to approach the simmstick development
process as well.  I also subscribe to the stamp email group.  There is a lot
of activity out there.  It makes me think that there is a product missing
between the learning\tutorial phase and hobby\small company development.
The BS2sx would be a good place to start, it would over that little extra to
achieve that task that may be a little too demanding for the BS2.  Please
keep me posted with your thoughts and progress.  Meanwhile, I guess I will
just toss together one on a prototype board.  If I do, I may toss out the
plans and reasons on the stamps egroup.  It just seems unimaginable that
someone would not have already done this.  I am an electronics technician by
trade, but have been in the computer programming\administration for the past
twelve years.  I have just revisited the electronics in the past year.
Can't forget about those roots!

I have a few boards left and Ben may have some too, but this is a short
term solution, as they are obsolete, and when they are sold, that will
be the finish.

Sure a nice new board to suit the application would be great, but I know
I have my eye on about 6 boards before I would be doing another PIC57-P
compatible. Perhaps the 24 pin module would be an idea, but then it
could be hardwired to a 1" SimmStick fairly quickly.

I was quite alarmed, too, when I read the paragraph, but it's the language
in the first half that causes most of the alarm. The lesson is don't post
stuff you don't want to become public domain to a *public* eGroup. However,
it's the second part of the paragraph that's important here, provided
what's proposed is a "private" group. This legalese just gives EGroups the
ability to allow members to download & read materials posted by other
members of the same group. As long as it would be a private group open only
to members then there would not be a problem.

The question I still have, though, is what do they mean by "endusers"? Are
endusers the same as members, or is it possibly a wider group? I also
wonder if it's possible for eGroups to alter who is a member without
informing us. This second clause doesn't protect us if they can make the
whole wide world be a member of our "private" group.

I don't think Dave is on the sisuser list (if he is, he may well kill me
as he will get double copies) :-)
so I am sending this to him, and also the SimmStick User Group for the
archives.

I know the individual will make up their own minds regarding the
interpretation of the 'rules' of use for egroups, however at this stage,
I intend to go ahead with the growth of the SimmStick User Group on
egroups. I can only say, that if it's your private property, don't post
it in a public place.

If i remember i could get some PIC.002 simmsticks From the
developer(Antti).Its  very cheap to build  your BS2 simmstick.Only add
there parallax PBASIC2 chip and some more components.

I begin by asking forgiveness for having been only a "lurker" until now.
Compared to other list members with tremendous experience, I often have
little to offer.  This is especially true in the case of Mr. Van Horn,
who I recall from when I was a subscriber to the MIT piclist, would
generously share his valuable technical and life experience.  I am an
Intellectual Property attorney, registered to practice in the U.S.
Patent and Trademark Office since 1990.  

Again, Mr. Van Horn has posted valuable information, which is
_generally_ speaking, about as accurate as you can get in a few lines. 
In law, there are exceptions to virtually all the rules, and legal
application of old legal principles to new situations, such as is the
case with the internet, is often uncertain and without precedent.  

The only thing I will add to Mr. Van Horn's advice is this:
If you have developed something which is potentially valuable, you would
be wise to invest a few dollars to get the opinion of an _insured_
professional before risking possible loss of your rights.  Then, even in
the event that your professional legal advice is wrong, you can be
compensated for detrimental reliance by the attorney and his malpractice
insurance carrier.

Please don't misinterpret this as a solicitation of business for myself.
I am already far too busy, and usually limit my practice to industrial
clientele.  It is just that I recognize that as a practitioner with
expertise in this field, I can be wrong when "predicting the future",
and I pay the insurance company dearly in order to protect anyone harmed
as a result.  Fortunately, I have never had a claim filed against me.

	Thanks for your feedback!  I think what would make sense is to make a
minimal board, just the BSII SX and support circuits.  If I do this SMT, I
can leave a large "sea of holes" prototyping area.  More then half the
board would be left for prototyping. Most of the features you mention are
available in 8 Pin chips so user could just add what they needed in the
prototyping aread.  Maybee I could put a couple examples and pointer the
app notes in the docs.  I'll also put a little more beefy linear regulator
and maybee +5V and ground run down the the proto area.

Hi Geoff,
you need to be a member of the group to post to the group. I have done
this to eliminate spam.

Check the table at the bottom of the dt106 and p16pro page.
Bojan has an error in the dt001 setup and promised to fix it on the next
version.
I may be guilty of mis-leading him with this, but I won't admit to it.
:-)

It is to do with VPP2, which the dt001 board doesn't use.

Hi ,
I'm new to the chat group and was wondering if this was the place to ask
some questions about modem theory and the PIC? If yes then my question is
has anyone used or initialised a TDK type modem I.C for QAM modulation? The
full part number of the device I'm using is TDK73K224L and is capable of
2400 baud comm's. The application is for a PET alpha numeric pager terminal.
What I need to do is implement a baud rate converter from 300 baud ( which
this equipment is still using and is interconnected to other devices through
TELSTRA who have stopped supporting this format and without telling anyone)
to 2400 baud. The converter must read the equipment at 300 baud and send to
PET pager at 2400 baud and vies versa. I guess though at this stage I'm
pretty keen to just get the modem initialised and sending a string to
HyperTerminal. Anyone got any ideas or pointers????????? TDK are fairly
limited in their app's data and I'm very limited in modem applications. Any
type of pointer or direction at this stage would be very much appreciated.

John,
If you are just doing a baud rate conversion from 300 bps to 2400bps and
have access at the RS232 level use a standard modem.
Most modems will auto sense the RS232 baud rate ( thereby talking at
300bps ) and then the modem will auto sense the modem data rate on the phone
line ( 2400 ) and away you go.
I have assumed that the existing equipment communicates via dial up modem to
the Telstra system.
If you are using a 'leased line' then a similar situation is possible but
you need a 'leased line modem'.
I suggest that you contact me directly ( via email ) and not via this list,
if you have any further questions. I have had a bit of involvement with
Telstra, paging systems etc. We can arrange to talk directly if required.

software guy but I have done some programming and interfacing at the
university some ten years back.Since then I am involved in only Power
in a telecommunications dept.
Some time back I thought about a project concerning remote data
acquisition from 60 remote exchanges.I have received great help from
Jack Tidwell and I have purchased my AVR (AT90S8535) and SIMMstick from
Dontronics.I have gone thru' all the AVR literatures I could get.I have
now mounted my SIMM Stick and I have written some simple programs (LED
tests & ADC tests) in JAVR Basic and assembly and am using Andy
Clarke's IDE.
Since I am new to hardware I do not know how to connect my SIMM Stick
to my PC and whether I need anything else to run and test my programs.
Can anybody help me?

Hi Salim,
Have you tried using hyperterminal? I have used it successfully for
interfacing (although I must confess not with a PIC, but the principle is
the same). You need no extra software with hyperterminal although it does
depend on the application. Can you describe it?

Hi Don,
Apologies for my ignorance. I've never been 'spammed' before. I see your
point though and it would seem fairly hard to control. No problems. On
another point though, I have finally had a chance to play with some of the
goodies you sent and whilst not having properly compiled anything with the
