Hello don and thanks for your kind repply.
i'm 30 and working on design of industrial controllers for 7 years.

We re using SGS thompson's ST62T25 series microcontrollers for one or 2 channel PID temperature controlling, timing, counting etc.
Recently we began to use pic 16f84 series controllers for our last timer device.. the flash program memory is a great opportunity.

So the matter, i want to use either a complete simstick module in our devices or try to make a simmstick like standard design. We also use the same kind of design in our devices for a long time. instead of plugging into a socket, our vertical cards are soldered on the base card. although our design lacks pc connection with rs232 . We also plan to have internet connection to our panel type devices.

I look for circuit and systems designers who can realise our system designs or in a short time. Exchanging ideas only is ok too.

some details on our product line can be found on our trial website www.kontel.org.

we hope to meet ppl like us and cooperate. Thanks for the repplies in advance.

see ya.

Subject: BascomAVR timer1 compare interrupts?

I've been trying to use the compare1a and compare1b interrupts with Bascom
AVR but don't seem to be having much luck.
Hardware is a Dontronics dt006 with 90s2313.

Can someone please suggest some code to do the following:
1. configure timer1 to use the compare registers
2. when timer1 = first compare value, execute an isr
3. when timer1 = second compare value, execute second isr
4. when timer1 overflows, execute third isr

I can configure timer1 and execute an isr when it overflows but cant seem to
get the compare bits working.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm putting together a DT106 and a bit confused with the oscillator
circuit (I'm a little green with electronics).

The schematic shows a third lead coming off of X1 going to ground. Is
this only for the resonator? I'm using a crystal and it doesn't have
three leads.

My goal is to use the ASCII programmer (http://www.picnpoke.com) to
program in the GPL'ed Wouter bootloader
(http://www.xs4all.nl/~wf/wouter/pic/wloader/index.html). I've built the
ASCII programmer on a DT201 proto board, hooked it up to a o'scope, and
it looks like it's working as I expected.

Thanks!

yes, that is correct Kevin, the resonators have two caps built in thay
need a ground.
If you use a crystal, then you need to fit the caps either side of the
crystal.

Currently DT103 for AT90S8515 & SIMM100 for AT90S8535.

Programming platform DT006 (a.k.a The rAVeR) can program both.

Subject: Problems with AVR 4433 micro

I have been working on a datalogger project and have run into a
problem that I thought someone there might have some thoughts on.

I have used the Dontronics DT006 board and the AT90S4433-8PC micro to
record data through its ADC channels and store this data in the
eeprom
for retrieval later.

Basically, when you press the first button, the logger starts
logging,
all the while checking for a press of the button again to stop the
logging process. Once logging is finished, either by running through
255 cycles or by stopping it manually, you can then press the second
button to dump the data out to the serial port.

The problem is that with the 4433 chip in place, there seems to be a
randomly occurring glitch that simulates a press of the first button,
but only while the software is in the logging mode. It doesn't occur
at any specific number of logging cycles, it can happen on the first
cycle, 100 cycles in, or not at all. It also doesn't occur when in
the
standby mode, so I have to assume that the ADC part of the logging
cycle is causing some sort of interference to port b.

Also, it only affects port b.1 (port b.0 is used as an output to
flash
the led in different ways to signify what the logger is doing),
portb.2 is not accidently triggering, though it is not polled in the
logging mode anyway.

I initially thought there was some sort of reset happening, but that
is not the case, as the number of cycles of logged data is written
into address 0 of the eeprom so that the software knows how many
samples to read back into the PC, and this info seems to be getting
written, so it seems to be that there is a simulated button press
happening, but only at certain times.

What is more bizarre is that this only started occurring yesterday,
it
has been fine since I received the chip a few days ago. Also,
swapping
a 2313 for the 4433 eliminates the problem, but of course there is no
ADC so you can't log anything! I must admit that I am starting to
think it is a chip fault, but mayby there is something obvious that I
am missing.

Also, when this error occurs, there is a random byte or two of data
written to the boards serial port.

I can send the Bascom AVR bas file if anyone wants to run it and see
what they think.

you could try putting weak pullups (say 10k-47k) on the switches (the side of
the swith that is not connected to R1 or R14) or even putting a check on the
switch press in your stop routine..... for instance along these lines

is switch pressed?
    no-continue logging
    yes-wait 50ms(or some suitable delay)
        is swich pressed?
            no-continue logging
            yes-stop logging

hop this makes sense

> standby mode, so I have to assume that the ADC part of the logging

with the design of the dt006 some compromise was done with the size of the PCB
(thus affecting cost) and `correct analog layout' we did not cater for the
solid area of ground for shielding etc as we decided that it was more of a
development platform than an actual production line product so it is possible
that you are getting some strange `stray' interference though this does sound
unlikely, given your fault description.
Another point may be in the change from portb as output to input, try putting
a small delay here incase stray capacitance may affect the keypress read (say
1-10ms)

try changing the poll routine to b.2 and see what that does...

maybe the chip has gone soggy, or some change to your software has caused
it... (been there done that before)

try puting bypas caps (.01-.1uf) across the VCC and GND directly under the
chip (solder side) also across AVCC and GND.

If you are still stuck I will attempt to help but I am not (reapeat NOT) and
good programmer and get cofused with that new fangled style of indented
programming) I use old fashioned basic (ala the raver.bas demo file).

good luck

As you asked Douglas, others may, so I better explain.

It is a plastic toy we got from the local electronics store.
Has a countdown to y2k. You program it, and it tells you how many days
to go on the tiny LCD.

It was in a junk bin, and my friend Mick couldn't resist it as it
appeared to be a SimmStick like product.
It also has a 20 second record phase, so it is happily counting numbers
in Mick's voice right now.
When it does this, the eyes light up on the big bug. The little bug to
the right is the playback button.
Cost about equiv $3USD.

Which reminds me: All the old toys, videos, and books on y2k that I
still see around the shops.
Should we be snapping these up so we can sell them at a big profit when
they become rare?
:-)

Hi,

What IC is being used for OSD ? We are looking for OSD that either has RAM
based character set or a text reversal mode. We need to be able to mirror
the text horizontally.

It is in the gif scematic on that page David.
I think it's the same one you were looking at for the PIC interface that
you were chasing on the PIClist.
I only browse the archives there now, the messages got a little too
many, but you could contact Lionel and he may be able to assist you
further.

Cheers Don...

Stand alone DT006 with on board AT90S2313-10PC is fantastic !... It worked
in first go.
But we could not get SIMM100 up and running on DT006. (We must be doing
something wrong in the middle of the night)

Questions:
(1) Can SIMM100 be used to program AT90S8535 on DT006's J2 or J3 SIMM socket
?

(2) Which programmer option should I select in Bascom-AVR to program SIMM100
on DT006?

(3) Any known/common mistakes regarding SIMM 100, DT006 and BASCOM-AVR
triplet?

Thanks...

Yes, I have tested this. What you need to do is the following:
(however I have only tested it with the KANDA interface, but that
should not make any difference which one you use to program it).

Insert jumper pins J14 and link pin 1 to pin 2 and pin 3 to pin4. Meaning
that you insert 2 jumpers that has the short side towards you if you have
the DB9 towards you like this:

--------- SimmStick connector -------

J14

I hope you know how I mean. It is described at:
http://www.dontronics.com/dt006.html if you follow the way down under J14 in
blue text.

AT90S8535.

Not that I'm aware of. What you should think of using the SIMM100 is
that if you don't use the MAXIM RESET circuit, you need to loop two
pins, you can read more on that at: http://www.lawicel.com/simmstick/

Let me know what you think of SIMM100. If you have more questions, just
send me an e-mail (I'm the creator behind SIMM100).

/Lars
