Stannary Hills

My plans for On30 have changed somewhat, now moving towards modelling a line which actually existed, rather than one which is totally freelanced. The Stannary Hills and Irvinebank Tramways of Northern Queensland were 2' gauge lines built through spectactular scenery to service tin mines in the remote area.

The Stannary Hills Tramway had some interesting locomotives. Click here and here for images of one of the two 2-6-0T locos built by Falcon Engine & Car Works, builders number 292 and 293 of 1897. These locos weighed 15 tons, had 10x14 inch cylinders, and had 24 inch driving wheels.

Another oddity was Germany, the only 4-4-2 tender locomotive to run anywhere, on any gauge, in Australia. It was built by Borsig about 1907, and still exists (in tank engine form) at the Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum after being purchased by the Cattle Creek sugar mill. Click here for views of the locomotive.

The Irvinebank Tramway also ran a locomotive unique to Australia - an Avonside NL class 0-6-2T. Here are some images of this loco.
