On30 Wagons

After being an HOn30 modeller for many years (see my Dutton Bay Tramway pages) I am taking some tentative steps in On30.

Here are some images of my first open wagon, based on the virtually identical 10-ton 16-foot wagons used on 2' gauge by both the North East Dundas Tramway (in Tasmania) and the Burrinjuck Railway (in New South Wales).

As a concession to the wider gauge of On30, the wagons are 6" wider but otherwise are dimensionally fairly accurate.

The bogies (trucks) are basic Roundhouse HO scale Arch Bar, with Steam Era Models 10.5mm spoked wheels.

As you can see the wagons are currently not detailed underneath. The NE Dundas was a vacuum braked line, while the Burrinjuck was airbraked. After the installation of the truss rods I will be adding airbrake equipment as used on Victoria's 2'6" gauge lines, similar but not quite the same as that on Burrinjuck, and a handbrake lever will also appear.

Finally the vehicle wil be lettered and weathered. Then, it's time to start on the next one...

Also under construction is a freelanced 18-foot flatcar. Photos of this vehicle will appear in due course.

Many thanks to Gavin Hince for allowing me to use his layout as a backdrop for these photos, and for temporarily laying a short length of rail to allow this wagon to sit on his On3 track
