Oxfam Australia - Diamond Valley Group

Our background...

The Oxfam Australia Diamond Valley Group, established as the Eltham Group of Community Aid Abroad  in 1963, is one of the longest established Oxfam Groups in Australia. The Group is a forum for working together to assist in overseas development, as well as making our community aware of the causes of Third World poverty. Towards these goals, we have conducted fund-raising activities and community education programs.

Our local group is one of over 150 groups throughout Australia. The group structure is essential to Oxfam Australia's status as a community-based organization. The open nature of State Committee meetings, and the annual State Conferences provide channels for participation by group members in policy formulation. Specific interest Oxfam Australia groups act as resource centres for municipal or workplace groups, and as focus for campaigns to influence government or corporate decisions.

Oxfam Australia conducts campaigns through its network of groups, to provide more opportunity for the poor and oppressed peoples throughout the world, and for the long-term ecological health of the Earth itself.
