July Group Meeting Friday July 9 - 8.00pm Oxfam Community Aid Abroad's Indigenous Peoples Advocacy Coordinator joins us
Indigenous Australia is on many of our hearts and minds. You may know that as part of Oxfam Community Aid Abroad's Strategic Plan 2002-2005, an ongoing commitment has been made to increase our work with Indigenous Australians, along with increasing advocacy work in Australia and through Oxfam International for Indigenous Peoples' rights. A number of us are involved in similar activities including reconciliation. It is appropriate to learn more of how Oxfam Community Aid Abroad is responding to the marginalisation and particular rights of Indigenous peoples. I have asked Donna Clay, Oxfam Community Aid Abroad's Indigenous Peoples Advocacy Coordinator to join with us at our July meeting to inform us of this work. Donna will give us an overview of where and how Oxfam Community Aid Abroad is working with indigenous people, and the current and emerging issues for our indigenous advocacy work.

Winter Solstice Dinner Wow we made it!
What a great night! And that was just in the kitchen! Once those of us in the kitchen had managed to master the industrial dishwasher, worked out that the oven had seen better days and managed to stay calm when we thought we were one turkey and one pudding short, only to finally locate them, the 100 or so Group members, friends and family had a lovely night of music, wine, and a scrumptious turkey roast and Christmas pudding. The silent auction also proved to be a hit with around $340 being made. A special thanks to a number of local businesses and members who generously provided services and products to ensure that there was something for almost everyone. In fact there was some quite fierce bidding a one stage, ensuring the money raised was of a generous level. Remember the money raised on the evening is going towards the Group's chosen project, the Mavume Food Security Program in Mozambique (Cattle, Crops and Community). A special thanks to Ruth and Stephen for again organising a fantastic night, and to all of your (and your partners/spouses) who helped out on the day.

June Meeting Wrap-up
You will recall that last month in our monthly meeting we looked at Oxfam Community Aid Abroad's "Blueprint for a more secure world". This Blueprint has been prepared by Oxfam Community Aid Abroad and is currently in a draft discussion paper format. We spent some time looking at four of the six points, to add our experiences and voice to a call for Australia to broaden its approach to global security. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback individually and as a small group. This feedback has been consolidated into a Group report back to the National Office. In coming months we will report as to the progress and success of the Blueprint being adopted by politicians.
