May Group Meeting
Friday May 14 - 8.00pm

Our guest speaker at our May meeting will be Andrew Hartwich. Andrew is OCAA Southern Africa Program Coordinator, and is involved in the HIV/Aids program. We have specifically requested that Andrew bring us an update on the HIV/Aids program in Southern Africa. This will be a great opportunity for us to gain an insight into one of Africa's biggest issue, so we too can understand the issues and be empowered to make a difference. Please come along!

Lobbying / Preparation
in lead up to Federal election

A number of folk have expressed interest in individual and Group lobbying/campaigning in the lead up to the Federal election. Although the date of Election Day is unknown, it is coming! The general feeling is that there is still much to do to alert the Liberal and Labor parties, in particular, of what is important to the electorate, and what we are asking them to do, to ensure our interests are represented and acted upon. At our May meeting we will have an opportunity to share ideas briefly and formulate a simple but effective plan to continue the momentum. Please bring some ideas along.

Annual Winter Solstice Dinner
Saturday 26th June

With the end of daylight saving and a chill in the air, you can perhaps begin to imagine wanting to warm up with a glass of mulled wine and the sit down with a group of friends to a turkey and plum pudding dinner.  Well, you will have a chance to do just that on Saturday 26th June as you participate in one of our major annual fund-raising events. (The venue will most likely be the very new Eltham Bowling Clubrooms). So mark the date in your diary and begin to organise a table of 8. At the May meeting we will be calling for volunteers to form a small planning group, a kitchen team, and to cook a pudding. Ruth Seidler

June Group Meeting

Movie Night

Around 30 of us joined together at the Palace Cinema Balwyn to see "Plots with a view".  We raised around $150 for our causes. As usual the supper spread was a smorgasbord of homemade favourites and goodies. Chris Rawlinson's  Cheese and Olive Loaf seemed to be a hit, so by popular demand, here is the recipe (although Chris's version will always be the best!)

Cheese and Olive Loaf

(Greek, 2 loaves - halve ingredients for one loaf)

Ingredients
2-3 onions
Mushrooms (e.g. 300g)
1 smallish eggplant
2x250g jars sliced olives
3 cups s.r. flour
Pepper
200g salted peanuts (optional)
Whole head garlic (about 20 cloves)
1 red capsicum
Handful mint leaves
200g grated Parmesan cheese
5 eggs
100-150g butter, melted

Instructions
Chop up vegetables. Give eggplant the salt treatment. Fry onions for a few minutes, add capsicum, eggplant and mushrooms, then lastly garlic, turn the heat down and cook for another 5 minutes or so. Mix all ingredients, transfer to 2 greased bread tins and cook at
about 170degC for 45-60 minutes, or as suits. Leave quite a while to cool and solidify.
