This Months Meeting
Friday August 12th
Annette Selkald
Oxfam Emergencies Officer

Annette was in Darfur in June and will be talking about Oxfam projects and her observations about the desperate situations in the camps.

No matter what the state of tensions are between the insurgents and the government, the camps are likely to be there for a long time.

One of the things Annette wants to tell us about is the development of fuel efficient stoves--targeted mainly at women, so that they need to make fewer trips to the forests.

There are two special reasons here--fuel is getting more and more scarce and the women aare often raped as they go on these journeys.

Another interesting evening assured for DV Oxfam members plus and friends who may wish to come.

We have decided to have an ongoing collection of goods for this centre in West Melbourne, as well as a monthly collection of Met tickets.

Each month we will "pass the envelope" for anyone who can bring along Met tickets (of any description or category) and also have a collection box for long life food, which members of the group will then deliver.

Maree Krohn and a friend of hers have particularly asked if we can do this, and she and other members are willing to deliver the goods.

We will have details of the types of food needed at the meeting, but in the mean time, bringing canned  tuna, noodles, tinned fruits, biscuits and toiletries, will make a good start. (Avoid tinned meat)

We are always very pleased to
receive contributions to this newsletter.

Thank you to Steve Herbert's office for printing.
