Next Meeting
Friday September 8th
Andy Kenyon
Oxfam Internationals
Tsunami Monitoring and
Evaluation Coordinator

Following comments and queries made at our August meeting, we asked for someone from the Tsunami relief team to inform us on progress in Tsunami relief and talk about transparency in the program, and progress in relief work.

Andy came to speak to us last year just after he had taken up this position and really welcomes the opportunity to talk to us again and bring us up to date on his work.

Comments have been made in the press about poor use of some Tsunami funds, so here is your chance to find out what Oxfam has been doing with it's money, and ongoing plans with relief work.

Andy will be happy to answer all your questions.

Note: Alexis Wright could not attend this meeting as she will be in Brisbane for the launch of her new book called "Carpenteria".

Book Fair
Saturday October 14th
Eltham Senior Citizens Hall

We are about to start sorting our very fine collection of books. There are some very good books coming in.

Starting form Tuesday 5th September the dungeon will be open for sorting at 2:00 pm every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday throughout September and in the first week of October if necessary.

If you can come for an hour or so on any of these days, it would be great. Maybe we will finish the job before then, but there are a lot of books. Please bring a Texta pen and any wine boxes (empty !) that you can find.

Friday October 13th
Setting Up

This would be our normal meeting night, so we hope to see EVERYONE during this evening.

We will begin to move books after 4:00 pm when we can get into the Hall, so we need lots of help to move the books up from the dungeon, then unpack them and put them into the correct categories on the tables, and to generally get organized. The sooner we start, the sooner we finish. Pizza and Fish and Chips will be ordered around 7:00 pm to feed the hordes who come in after work.

At our September meeting we will call for volunteers to make up a roster for Saturday 14th October. We will need people from 7:45 am (for an 8:00 am start) until 8:00 pm and then we need to clean up.

We will also ask for an indication of who can come with trolleys, utes and station wagons to move the books on late Friday afternoon. We will also need a few people to take boxes of left over books out to the recycling depot out on Yan Yean Rd on Sunday morning.

We raised $10,000 at our last book fair so with your help lets try make it $12,000 this time !

Thanks to Steve Herbert's Office for photocopying.
