15th June Meeting Jenny Macklin MP Indigenous Health
Our local Federal MP for Jagajaga, Jenny Macklin, the Shadow Minister for Families & Community Services, Indigenous Affairs & Reconciliation, will be visiting us at the June 15th meeting to discuss Aboriginal health.
Terry Robb talked to us about Oxfam's "Close the Gap" campaign at our February meeting, and the attempt by Oxfam to improve the health for our indigenous community. This will be your opportunity to express your concerns and talk with Jenny about other Oxfam campaigns such as "Make Poverty History". Don Stokes and John Kent have been busy with members of the Nillumbik Reconciliation Group formulating some discussion questions.
Please come along and welcome Jenny.

Country Dance
On Saturday 19th May the bare North Eltham Hall was transformed in a very short time into an inviting dance space, thanks to a busy throng of group members. That set the scene for a very successful evening with Michael Pender calling the moves for about 90 dancers.
By the end of the night the girls were just about always on the right when they weren't being passed over, and we knew how to strip the willow. We also managed to do great justice to the sumptuous supper and part with $1140 in exchange for a range of donated items in the silent auction. By midnight the hall was once again dark and bare, but were warmed by the night's activity and convivial company, and happy in the knowledge that we'd raised $2700 altogether.
But the questions remain -Was it a carbon neutral fundraiser? When do we do it again?
Special thanks to Michael for a great job helping us all have a great time, Ant for yet another very successful silent auction, Heather and Don for taking care of the decorations, Jan Gill for heaving crockery about, Jan Aitken for taking the bookings and Beth and Val for organising the supper.
