Seal 印記 |
Holy Spirit |
Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:13) |
In the ancient world, seal served as legal tokens of ownership and authority. To place a seal on a document meant that the power of the one making the seal stood behind the seal itself. No one can open it except for the sender or receiver. The Holy Spirit is the seal of our salvation. He is the "proof" that we belong to Jesus Christ. God has "marked" us with the Holy Spirit, who now lives within us. Ephesians 4:30 adds the thought that we are "sealed for the day of redemption" - a reference to the second coming of Jesus Christ. This thought ought to encourage our hearts. Many believers struggle with the assurance of salvation, wondering if they have been "good enough" to finally be saved. The answer is that no one can ever be "good enough" in God's sight. That's why Christ came to this world for those who were not "good enough", so that through His perfect goodness, we might be saved. God wants us to have the full assurance of our salvation without regard to our personal feelings. If we are truly born again, God has sealed us with the Holy Spirit as a present reminder that we belong to Christ and as a guidance of our future deliverance when Jesus returns.

Oil 膏油 |
Holy Spirit |
So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power. (1 Samuel 16:13) |
Oil is a familiar biblical symbol of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, priests and kings were anointed with oil as a means of setting them apart for special service to God. Oil was used as fuel for lamps and for cleansing and sanctifying. In the New Testament, Jesus sent out the Twelve to minister in His name. They cast out demons and anointed sick people with oil (Mark 6:7-13). Just as the priests and kings must first be anointed with oil before service can begin, so the power of the Holy Spirit is necessary for all effective service for God. Just as oil is necessary for the lamp to give off light, so it is the Holy Spirit who gives us power to shine as the light of the world. Just as oil sanctifies priests and lepers, so the Holy Spirit sanctifies the children of God. Anointing the sick with oil reminds both the sick and the well that all true healing rests in God's hands alone. |

Fire 火焰 |
Holy Spirit |
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. (Acts 2:3) |
God sent the "tongues of fire" on the day of Pentecost as a sign that He was about to pour out the Holy Spirit in a new and powerful way. Just as the fiery pillar represented God's personal presence with His people, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in all believers. In the Old Testament, God's presence came to the nation as a whole, but now God's presence will be personal and individual - thus the "tongues of fire" rested on each person individually. This indicates that where once He works in and through a nation, now He works in and through individuals. In reference to the Holy Spirit, fire represents:

Counselor 保惠師 |
Holy Spirit |
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. (John 14:16) |
A well-known name of the Holy Spirit. Came from the Greek word parakletos, which means "one who is called alongside to help". This can also be translated into "comforter", "helper" or "advocate". It has within it the idea of coming to the aid of someone in need and doing for that person what he cannot do for himself. Jesus spoke these words just a few hours before His crucifixion. In those dark hours, as wicked men schemed to take His life, knowing that all soon He would be taken from His disciples, Jesus gave His men a word of encouragement regarding the things that were about to happen. The words of Jesus have been a great comfort to the disciples. The word "Counselor" implies two things: someone is in trouble, and someone else is coming to the rescue. Where do you turn when you are in trouble? Jesus sent the Holy Spirit in His place, so that no one is ever left alone. Sooner or later, all human friends and loved ones would fail us, but all God's children have at least one Friend, one Helper, one Counselor, one Comforter. |

Breath of Life 生氣 |
Holy Spirit |
And the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7) |
The phrase "breath of life" refers to more than simply the air that Adam breathed but the animating life force that comes only from God's spirit. While the body is made of "the dust of the ground" life comes only from the inbreathing of God's spirit. Without the "inbreathing" of God's Spirit in the work of regeneration we could not be born again.

Rabbi 拉比 |
Jesus |
Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. (John 1:49) |
"Rabbi" means "teacher" and is used seven times in the New Testament. Nathanael recognized Christ as a teacher and He was the greatest teacher that ever lived. A careful study of the four gospels with a view to learning how Christ taught, His method, His manner, and His purpose, is better than any other possible training for Bible teachers. Christ was the true teacher. He taught the truth. He was able to make Himself understood to men of lower estate. He used words which men can comprehend. He illustrated His messages in a practical manner. |

Emmanuel 以馬內利 |
Jesus |
Behold, a virgin ... shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel. (Matthew 1:23) |
Means "God with us". This was the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14. God is wonderful and He is Saviour. He promised to be with us as He mentions in Matthew 28:19-20 "Go ye, therefore, and teach all nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Let us sense His presence and make Him real. Walk, talk, live with and love Him more and more as the days go by. Enjoy His fellowship.

A ransom 贖價 |
Jesus |
The Son of man came ... to give his life a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45) |
Christ is set forth as the penalty paid for the sins of the world - "A ransom for many!" He saw that we are sinners under the judgement wrath of God, and He took our place and paid the penalty and price for our deliverance with His own blood. Listen to the drops of blood as they fall from hands and feet and wounded side! They voice the words, "The ransom price for my sins and for the sins of the whole world." How dear and precious He is to us, washed clean in His blood and freed forever from the punishment due us. We wish that men everywhere would believe it and receive it.

The vine 葡萄樹 |
Jesus |
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (John 15:5) |
The Lord associates Himself with the branches. He is the root and stem upon which we, as branches, must depend. The purpose of the vine is to bear fruits. The life is in the vine, but that life is also in the branches, and we are to be fruit-bearing branches. We can bear no fruit of ourselves. Our dependence is upon Him. The desire of a farmer is to produce fruit, and we must ask ourselves if we are a fruit-bearing branch?
