Fire Dragon

spacer.gif (56 bytes) Fire Dragons are highly trained Aspect Warriors that specialise in the use of deadly Fusion Guns and meltabombs. The armour of the Fire Dragon is 4+ and this lighter armour still allows the Fire Dragon enough mobility to run (fleet of foot).

TACTICAL SUGGESTIONS:

Because of the short range of the fusion gun, the Fire Dragons need to get close to the enemy to be effective. Getting close to the enemy can be a bit of a problem for Fire Dragons because of their lighter armour and inate fragility. The Fire Dragons need to be transported in a vehicle, or screened. If the Dragons are transported, the crossfire rule can be utilized by placing their transport in the way of the enemy's retreat.

Although the Fire Dragons will usually kill whatever they hit, they are vulnerable to return fire and assault. As with most Eldar troops, it is better to use Fire Dragons in combination with other troops that can help mop up any enemy that are left over after the Fire Dragons have fired. An Exarch is a good addition to a squad as their higher leadership and two attacks would be useful in assault.  An Exarch with "burning fist" can also be useful in assault.

The Fire Dragons are particularly good at taking out heavy tanks. Some would say a little too good, as quite often Fire Dragons get killed by the resulting explosion of a successful assault on a tank with meltabombs. A way to avoid this is to fire from inside the transport with half the squad, although this will reduce your chances of success.   To get the most out of a squad of Fire Dragons it is a good idea to try and get the squad near 2 objectives (particularly tanks) so you can shoot one and assault the other as the Fire Dragons will attract so much fire that they will probably get destroyed in the next turn.

If tanks and other vehicles are the target then use small squads of Fire Dragons in a Falcon because the targetting rules state that a squad must shoot at the same unit, which means that a large squad shooting at the same vehicle would be a waste of points.

If the Fire Dragons' prey are heavily armoured or high toughness troops, the Fire Dragons should be used in large squads to make sure they kill as many as possible, so as to reduce the amount of return fire from the survivors.

In this case the Fire Dragons and Falcon shot at the bikes.

Supporting squads of Guardians with starcannons mopped up the survivors.
Then the Fire Dragons charged the jumpack troops.

Fire Dragons are also useful in defence. If you want to make sure the enemy thinks twice before going in to an area, then Fire Dragons are an option that will deter most clear thinking opponents.
