spacer.gif (56 bytes) Warlocks are psychically adept warriors that are able to either form a bodyguard for the Farseer or to accompany Guardian or Wraithguard squads. Warlocks have rune armor that gives them an invulnerable save of 4+. Warlocks are also able to "fleet of foot"

TACTICAL SUGGESTIONS:

When used properly Warlocks are an extremely powerful addition to your force. Not only are the Warlocks useful as body guards or leading squads, they are very good at taking out vehicles by either using witch blades or singing spears. I always give my Warlocks Witch Blades because I’ve found it useful to get the extra attack by having the extra close combat weapon. As powerful as the singing spear is, it can’t be used in hand to hand with one hand and so the attack profile stays the same.

Warlocks have available to them 4 psychic powers that will work whenever they are needed without having to take a psychic test.

The two powers that I’ve found the most effective are "Destructor" and "Enhance".

Destructor can be very effective when used in the Farseer’s bodyguard. Particularly when a few other warlocks in the bodyguard have the same power.

Enhance has to be my favourite warlock power as is useful when used with either the Farseer’s bodyguard or Waithguard and Guardians.

Warlocks can be used in two ways.

  • As bodyguard for the Farseer.

Five Warlocks and a Farseer make a formidable HQ force. I like to give the Farseer "Fortune" and four of the Warlocks "Destructor". The fifth Warlock gets "Enhance". Since so many points are in one place I tend to keep the HQ in a Falcon with a Holofield.

The above combination can sometimes be a little too effective as the Warlocks with "Destructor" power can kill so many of the enemy that you may not have any foe to charge (either they break and run away or you’ve killed all the ones that were in charging range). You may get left out in the open and be shot to pieces.

I would suggest that you use this sort of squad on high toughness troops such as Space Marines as there will always be a few survivors to charge into. Alternatively the Farseer and the bodyguard can be dropped off near two enemy squads. Use "Destructor" on one squad and then charge the other squad.

The Warlock with enhance will help the squad dominate most hand to hand encounters. Be careful of charging troops with very high initiatives, such as Dark Eldar Archons. Archons and other high initiative troops are better handled by hitting them first with the Falcon and the Destructors (the more saves the Archon has to make the better) before charging.

  • As leaders of Guardian or Wraithguard squads

Wraithguard are awesome in hand to hand when led by a Warlock with "Enhance".

Guardians are much more durable when they are led by a Warlock with enhance. When guardians are led this way they can last a surprising amount of time and can tie up quite a lot of enemy for a few turns.

An "Enhanced" Jetbike squad can be an effective force to harass the enemy’s flanks.  "Conceal" can also help jetbikes survive a little longer as they rush forward.

Keep in mind that the enemy will target the warlock when they find out the unit is being "Enhanced". Be particularly wary of squads with flamers.
