Local Electronics Suppliers
Altronics - Based in Perth but has recently opened a shop in Sydney (haven't seen it yet...). They've got a good range of stuff, similar to jaycar.
Computronics - Good source for Kinsten PCB materials.
Dick Smith Electronics - Don't bother! (the staff sure don't) - only good for the most basic stuff, transistors, resistors, etc in dire circumstances.
Futurlec Australia - These guys are fairly new but look to be one of the best suppliers around. Huge range, esp. ICs, and very low prices - even for low quantity (no min $). And very reasonable postage prices, esp. since the stuff seems to come from Thailand.
Jaycar Electronics - If you don't know who they are well...what the hell are you doing? Have shops all over Australia.
Oatley Electronics - They sell surplus components, kits, used test equipment, etc. via mail-order
Polykom - Never used 'em but they have an interesting selection of components, dodgy website though.
RCS Radio - PCB manufacturer, located in Sydney. My source for ferric chloride :)
Rockby Electronics - My favorite mail-order supplier (well...them and worldwide). Huge selection (lots of SMDs), they sell a lot of surplus stuff too.
Tecs - They have couple of shops in Melbourne - never used them, maybe someday.
Wiltronics - Mail-order supplier, has a range of components/tools/hardware similar to Jaycar.
Worldwide Electronic Components - Shop located in Perth but they mail stuff everywhere (hence the name). Just components but they've got a really good range - better than Jaycar's and cheaper too. Also a DOS based catalog to download! ($20 min order...bleh)
WES Components - Mainly supply parts to the consumer electronics repair industry but have loads of things you just can't find anywhere else (like female SCART sockets). Their website is pretty empty... basically just a catalog order form. The best way to order parts from them through your local tv/vcr repair shop.
High Country Service Data - Service manuals (tv,vcr, hifi, etc) for rent. Great resource.
International Electronics Suppliers
Cosmic Amusement Machine Company - (HK) Distributors of arcade parts, (sanwa) joysticks, etc
Digikey - (american) A good source of components for people in the US.
Reichelt - (german) This looks like the best place to buy components in Germany.
Timeline Inc. - (american) Best place to get LCD displays from... they also sell small CRT monitors, power supplies, and other surplus stuff.
Electronics Projects
Analog Oriented Homebrew Hardware - The name describes it pretty well.
Batronix - Designs for an (E)EPROM programmer and a flash micro programmer. (in German and English)
Electronic Lives Mfg - A huge collection of interesting projects and notes. (in Japanese and English)
Elliott Sound Products - A big collection of audio related projects.
Home Page of Roman Black - Some very interesting projects - have a look at BTc PICsound and the Black Regulator (two transistor DC-DC converter).
Mondo Technology - 25+ Pic Projects. Excellent microcontroller resource.
Pira.cz - Pirate radio, FM transmitters, antennas, etc (in Czech and English)
'Page of an engineer and wireless enthusiast' - A TV and VGA test pattern generator using a microcontroller. (in Russian)
