Awards and Recognition

On Friday 25th May 2001, at the Combined Astronomical Societies of South-East Queensland Meeting (Brisbane Astronomical Society, Astronomical Association Of Queensland, Redlands Astronomical Society, South East Queensland Astronomical Society, Southern Astronomical Society), the 2001 Achievement Award was conferred to my wife and myself. It was an historical moment as I was for once lost for words.

The words that should have been said were a very big thank-you to all the members of BAS who helped make the Teachers Conferences the successes they were. The members who staffed the Organisation Committees, moderated the sessions, and laboured to present a professional face of our club.

Especial thanks to Paul Floyd (now of ACT Skywatch), who in 1993 approached the Society and convinced our Management Committee to hold these events. His enthusiasm, vision and planning has given us this recognition. Anne-Louise and I would like to dedicate this award to Paul. What we achieved would not have occurred without him.

The Award will be placed on display in the Gallery of the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium until May 2002.
