Mars
June 2003

During June Mars continues to approach delta Capricornus until the 3rd of June when this planet will rise one fifth of a degree from the star.

Mars is travelling to another encounter with a planet, this time it is Uranus who receives a visit from the God of War, passing 3 degrees of each other on the 23rd.

This conjunction occurs 4 days after the Moon passes just under 6 degrees from Mars and Uranus at 3:00 am on the 20th (these object are closer just after they rise in the evening of the 19th).

This separation puts these object inside the field of view of a pair of 7 x 50 binoculars, Uranus will be shining at 6th magnitude and should be easily identified even with the Moon's glare.

All times quoted are Australian Eastern Standard Time, views are from Brisbane.
