Mars
May
2003

Midway through May, on the 14th and 15th, Mars passes 2 degrees south of Neptune in the constellation of Capricornus. Neptune will be shining at magnitude 7.9, well within the reach of a pair of binoculars.

On the 22nd of May, just one day before Last Quarter, the Moon passes 3 degrees below the Red Planet. The planet continues to travel through Capricornus until at the end of May it is just over 1.5 degrees from Deneb Algiedi, delta Capricornus, at the tail of the Sea Goat, and barely 0.1 degrees from 3.6 magnitude star Nashira.
