Mercury
June 2003
On the morning of June 4rd Mercury is at greatest elongation, this is one of the best morning apparition for the year, although January had a very good showing as well. The nights are getting longer and so the twilight is ending earlier, allowing us to observe Mercury while it is higher in darker skies.
As the swiftest of all planets once again drops toward the horizon, it passes even closer to Venus than last month while it was on the rise. On the morning of the 21st, and again on the 22nd, both these planets will be within half a degree of each other.
