What is the DIY Sports Car project ?
Like many others, I have been inspired by the Ron Champion book, 'Build Your
Own Sportscar for £250'. 
The difference was that I didn't want to build a front engine, rear wheel
drive, Lotus 7 clone. I wanted something more contemporary. Something
mid-engined.
There are two major attractions in a mid-engined design for me:
- Better packaging, with more weight close to the centre-of-gravity,
should mean improved handling.
- Transverse, front-wheel-drive powertrains are much more common than
RWD ones now. A modern drivetrain is a must for registration in Australia.
In addition, the "all in one" nature of modern FWD powertrains should greatly
simplify the chassis design.
