Snout didn't fail to impress on their latest trip from Melbourne. A long road and studio history has melded their 60s pop roots with some of that 70s glam electricity into something miraculously agreeable.

Frontman Ross McLennan has a neat, McCartneyesque way with a bass riff but guitar hero Greg Ng, androgynous as a stick insect but a great deal more active, keeps the attack aggressive. The pairs almost-matching beige slacks and black t-shirts were either a happy accident or the greatest anti-fashion statement since Paul Weller.

Kicking off with early gems 'Tumbling' and 'Matter Baby', the sonically tidy trio ploughed through a representative sample of McLennan's prolific output. Their current single, 'CromagnonMan', was a popular set closer while the unfamiliar selections were enough to whet the appetite for the forthcoming second Snout LP, aptly titled The New Pop Dialogue.
