I am descended from the famous First Fleet couple Henry Kable and Susannah Holmes. They were married in the first European wedding ceremony in the new colony, in February 1788. Their daughter Diana (b. 5 December 1788) was the first white child born in Australia to survive to maturity. She married William Littleton Gaudry in 1809. The story of Henry and Susannah Kable is remarkable. They were transported as convicts who had had an illegitimate child, also called Henry Kable, whilst in Norfolk prison. That they were able to travel together on the "Friendship" in the First Fleet was due to the kind intervention of Lord Sydney. He had received representations from the citizens of London about the plight of the young couple and child who would otherwise have been separated.
My own family consists of my wife Patricia (née Coe), daughters Kerry Catherine and Rebecca Louise, and son Peter Littleton Kable. My wife and I live in Sydney. Telephone: (02) 9498 7773. Prior to 1994 we lived in Adelaide for 21 years. By profession, I am a mathematician. I am now retired. I was previously Director of the International Centre of Excellence for Education in Mathematics (ICE-EM) and Professor of Mathematics at the University of Melbourne, and Professor of Mathematics (Emeritus) and Head of School at the University of New South of Wales.
This is based on the original work, starting in 1970, of my wife Patricia. Many people have contributed invaluable information to us in the creation of the tree. In recent times, I have used the NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages records and also the Queensland ones to check ours. This was helpful, but it is wise to exercise caution, just the same. There were translation and spelling errors. I found that using wildcards can help in that regard. I have used Reunion software to present the tree on the web. The family tree has been updated a little recently. Thank you to all who have sent me additions and amendments. This webpage carries the date of most recent update in the footer.
If you find your name on the public version of the tree, and would prefer that it not be there, please let me know and I shall remove it.
We would be pleased to hear from other members of the Gaudry or Kable families, especially about births, deaths and marriages that have occurred since 1970 so I can update the tree. Send me an We are also happy to make available any background information we have in addition to the tree itself. Please let me know of any dead links on this site. The attractive family card layout of these trees was produced using Reunion software for the Macintosh. In case you are using different software, I am making my raw data available in Gedcom 5.5 format. You can download this in Macintosh or Windows format and then import it into your favourite genealogy program.
Diana Gaudry née Kable married John Teale following the death of William Littleton Gaudry in 1816. Click on the link to see the merged Kable-Gaudry-Teale tree. Thanks to Roslyn Robinson for giving me access to her fabulous work on the Kable-Gaudry-Teale data.
Some time ago, I made a merged Gaudry/Booty tree showing the descendants of George Booty and Emmeline Amelia Susannah Gaudry along with the Gaudry descendants, going back to Henry Kable and Susannah Holmes. I am grateful to Jan Allen and Jim Leabeater (dec) for the Booty family data.
The Gedcom data for the Gaudry/Booty tree is also available in Mac format and Windows format .
