California, USA

In December 1979, I visited Los Angeles in December, during the time of
torrential rains and landslides all along the coast, which meant missing out on a
trip down the coastal highway and Big Sur - bummer. Here are a few shots of
this trip. Some heavy colour correction had to be done on most of these pictures having
been given some stale film. (you should see some of the originals - it's amazing
what you can put back in with Photoshop!).

The best cactus display I have ever seen, at the Huntingdon Gardens, near Los Angeles.

Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck in his book by the same name, describing working conditions in the canning industry. I hope the authorities eventually removed those unsightly parking meters.

Carmel is a pretty village in the style of old world country architecture. It is quite tasteful. These are the motels. Carmel is famous for the Monarch butterflies which return there every spring.

The strange towers in the suburb of Watts in Los Angeles, created by Simon Rodia in the first half of this century. It was his life's work.

The lovely Woodland Chapel designed by Architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
