CUSTOM FRONT PARKING LIGHTS FOR YOUR CAMARO.

by William Weissman

These cannot be bought because I make them. I start by using new lamp assemblies. Used assemblies seem to develop black pits on the chrome surface. I have yet to see one that does not have black pits. Take a look into your lamps through the bulb hole and see for yourself. Because my lamps are crystal clear and you can see everything inside the lamps, I have to start with new assemblies.

Then I grind off the existing plastic lens, remove the plastic "diffuser" located just behind the lens, then level off the surface used to glue my new lens onto. I use 1/8" clear plexiglas, which I cut to fit the GM assembly, then score three (or four) horizontal lines on the inside surface for that "high tech" look. You can just see this in the pic.

Then I glue the new lens on. Because the plexiglas is completely clear, you can see the glue and it's very unsightly. So, I mask off the entire lens except about 1/4" around the perimeter (where you can see the glue) and paint it with gloss black spray paint. This covers the glue. That's all there is to it.

Now, for the coolest part. You must use orange colored bulbs in the front markers. If my custom assemblies are viewed from an angle (like in the left side pic above), then the lens looks like a clear mirror. But when viewed head-on (right hand pic above) and the bulb is centered in the view, the clear mirror image turns to a reflective orange because of the mirror effect from the bulb. Personally, I think they look awesome!!

The hardest part about making these lenses is having to grind a brand new lamp assembly (they're not cheap) until the lens and diffuser is completely obliterated. If you want to make a pair for yourself, I'd suggest practicing on your old lamp assembly first or...... if you prefer, I can do it for you. For details, e-mail me.
