The early GTR-XU1
Torana's were fitted with 186 and later 202 ci motors. These were very quick little cars
with highly modified motors. With the new LH model in 1974, the 308 ci (5.0 litre) Holden V8 was fitted, and this model was called the SLR-5000. There was a small number of racing versions produced for sale to the public, and these were the L34 and the A9X. A popular swap with these is the fitment of the 350 Chevy engine. Left: SLR-5000. Below: Two GTR-XU1's, and three SLR-5000's. |

| Lastly, a later model Holden
V8 "muscle-car", the 1996 Commodore GTS-215i. These are fitted with a
"stroked" version of the Australian 5.0 V8, which displaces 5.7 litres and
produces 215KW (290HP). Road tests of these cars show a 1/4 mile ET of between 14.9 and
15.4 seconds. The Australian V8 has now been phased out by Holden and replaced by the LS1 5.7 litre Chevy V8, imported from the USA. The "base" version of the LS1 in Australia produces 225kW . HSV models get a 255 KW or 300 KW (400 HP) version of the LS1. |
