Old Ophir is Laurie Green's On3 exhibition layout, based on a fictitious branch of the Rio Grande Southern. Quite commonly seen on the Melbourne circuit over many years, it was cleverly designed to fit into his Toyota Celica to avoid the need for a trailer. Old Ophir is a switching layout, with traffic being routed by a card system. To make things more difficult additional situation cards could be thrown in - to take a track out of service for example.

This is an extremely popular layout, and although Laurie has since built his Enterprise Gold Mining in On30, there is some chance that Old Ophir will be resurrected and seen again.

Visit Laurie Green's Rio Grande Southern web site for a host of information, and be certain to follow his links to "Will it Fit the Space I've Got?" and his own description of Old Ophir. These pages cover the design parameters used in the design, construction and operation of this fine switching layout, and include a lengthy description of the card system used by Laurie and now copied by others.
