Pelican Cove is the work of the members of the Croydon Narrow Gauge Group. Each member of the Group contributed to the layout. It took approximately eighteen months from the start of construction till the layout was shown for the first time.

The layout represents a fictitious wharf area and its associated warehouses and shows what can be achieved in a small space.

The dimensions of the layout are 2080 x 980 mm. The Group constructed the layout to O scale but refuses to enter into the debate as to what is the correct O scale, that is 1:43.5 or 1:48. The general public cannot pick the differences and many so-called experts cannot tell the difference either. Each Group member has their particular preference as to the scale they use and by careful blending of colours the work of these members has been easily combined. Peco O-16.5 track work has been used through out.

A card system is used to indicate where on the layout the different rolling stock is positioned. Behind the back scene the entire train is held in a cassette that allows it to be turned easily and minimises the handling of the rolling stock. As the rolling stock comes from the individual Group members it has come from many sources. The locomotives range from commercial items that may have been repainted, to body kits on commercial mechanisms to kit bashed HO items. Most of the rolling stock is based on the Peco O-16.5 range of wagon kits with the occasional kit bash.
