George Paxon is building this large On3 layout in a purpose built room added on above his house. The layout is double-decked, and at the moment the top deck could be considered to be "finished" while the lower deck remains incomplete.

While the layout is called the Rio Grande Western there are many signs of George's early years in the eastern US, with East Broad Top locomotives and the doodlebug running around. In addition to the mainline, there are a couple of branches wandering around the place, one for logging, and the other, running across a neat scene of flowing water across the roadbed, is an industrial shortline. The lower deck, when completed, will contain a loop of standard gauge track, giving George somewhere to run his collection of "wide gauge" locomotives.

George's scenery treatment on the "completed" top deck has resulted in some beautiful scenes, accentuated by the very high level. At places the track is 1900 mm above the floor - that's 6'4" - and the viewer is looking up at the trains, as you would if standing in a valley floor with the trains running above you.

George runs with EasyDCC and has sound equipped locomotives. It's a wonderful experience running these trains, listening to the sounds of the locomotives and blowing the whistles.

The track plan below is of the top level of the layout.
