Our trip to KALPOWER commenced 14th August 2003. Both Les D'Alton (3 RAR) and I were looking forward to this trip if not for any other reason then to possibly catchup with some long lost mates. As directed by the Pandanus Web Site we followed the three red stripes symbol which had been painted on the road way by other Vets.We arrived at Lakeland Downs on the afternoon of 17th August and headed directly to Laura. The road was worst then I could have imagined, and the trip from Laura to Kalpower was just as bad. We arrived at kalpower just on dusk and the first Vet we ran into was Les Hiddens (Bushtucker Man). It was a great surpirse to see him after such a long time, and he soon directed us to where the other Vets had set themselves up.
The following photos (in no particular order) are included below for the benefit of those who were there, and those who could'nt make it. I make no apologies for the lack of descriptions, but those that did make it will soon recognise many familiar faces and places. As a simple way of describing the visit I have labelled the photos in accordance with the phases of the trip. For instance, RAP photos are of the afternoon gathering at the RAP. CAMPING photos are of us and others just enjoying ourselves at our campsites etc. MEMORIAL photos are those taken on the 18th August at the memorial, which was attended by all including Father John. I think you can follow the other descriptions.
Below is a map of where KALPOWER is located, for those who are interested in making the trip.
