There was a time, many moons ago, when I complained of boredom - of having nothing to do. Those days are long gone! Now my greatest complaint is that there are too few hours in a day - and that my body insists on sleeping through two or three of them! I don't actually consider any of my time to be spare
, as such, but since that is the common term for the time left over after working, eating and sleeping have taken their toll, that is the term I'll use. For convenience, you understand...
- Computing:
- You might think that someone who spends all day working in front of a computer would be glad to get away from them in his spare time, but nothing could be further from the truth. I don't necessarily do as much programming as I used to, though - most of my time now is split between prowling the 'Net (and answering email), and playing games. I have also had a bit of a play with raytracing recently, and of course, the thrills and spills of web-page authoring are always guaranteed to chew up a few hours whenever I decide to modify this site.
- Reading:
- If I'm not sitting in front of my computer, (or sometimes even when I am,) you are most likely to find me reading. I read mostly Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and Humour, although I've been known to read just about anything if it captures my interest. A side effect of my voracious reading appetite is that I also quite like to write. Of course I don't do as much of it as I should - it takes too long!
- Music:
- Back in the days when flares were cool, and the Presidents of the United States of America were merely a bunch of old guys who'd taken turns running that wonderful country, I joined the rest of the world in listening to the light and cheery sounds of ABBA. However, times changed, and I changed. I rebelled against the Popular Music trends and spent the next sixteen years listening almost exclusively to movie Soundtracks, and to the Classical music which seemed a logical extension of that orchestral sound. As the years passed, however, I kept right on a-changing - or maybe it was just that the number of quality soundtracks decreased with each new year. Whatever the reason I began to expand my musical tastes, first to include purely instrumental works, and then on to slightly more mainstream stuff. I still disdain much of the
popularmusic that is around today, but every so often I hear something I like and I don't automatically dismiss it...- And I'm not afraid to admit that I still like ABBA, darn it!
- Photography:
- I first became interested in photography a few years ago, but I never really did anything about it until a holiday in September 1995. This seemed to be the perfect excuse to buy myself a decent camera - and duty free at that! It was not that simple, of course; it never is - but you'll find that sad little sob story elsewhere on these pages. Anyway, the end result was a nice new SLR camera and 1600 holiday snaps. Nowadays I tend to go a few weeks without taking any photographs, and then use six rolls of film in one day. Occasionally I even take a decent photo!
