LucasArts reason behind choppy sound in Jedi Knight!

The performance issue isn't related to the card. It has to do with the game's High Res sounds. You have the option during installation of either High Res or Low Res sounds. There is a difference in sound quality but there's an even bigger difference in game performance between the two. The High Res sounds will demand a lot more performance, so it's often better to just stick with the Low Res sounds. Unfortunately, Jedi Knight requires that you install the High Res sounds in order to use Aureal 3D in the game. Outlaws does not do this. Outlaws only has one sound quality available and it works with Aureal 3D sound.

So, 3D sound should not be attempted by anyone with less than 32 Mb of memory. Actually, more than 32 Mb is preferable. There's not a whole lot you can do about the game's performance with 3D sound. RAM will be the biggest factor that could help performance (and it's not our policy to recommend people to purchase additional hardware).

Here are some basic suggestions to offer:
* Make sure they're not running in a video resolution above 640x480, 16-bit color. That might help out.
* Make sure they have the latest Diamond Monster drivers and the latest Aureal 3D drivers
* They might try changing the Diamond Monster Sound's 48k Codec setting to 44k (or experiment with this a bit).
