How to restore original sound card drivers in
Windows XP
Open the System control panel, choose Hardware tab,
choose Device Manager, expand Sound, expand Video and game controllers
section, choose 'Aureal Vortex 88x0 Audio (WDM)' device, right click
over deivce and choose Properies, choose Driver tab and choose Roll Back
Driver option.
If that fails use than use the instructions below to manually restore
the original sound card drivers.
First make sure no file extensions are been hidden and
all files are been shown in Windows Explorer
Open Windows Explorer, choose Tools menu, choose Folder Options, choose
View tab.
Make sure the box next to 'Hide extensions for known file types' is
empty (Not ticked).
Make sure 'Hidden files and folders' is set to 'Show hidden files and
folders'
Make sure the box next to 'Hide protected operating system files
[Recommanded]' is empty (Not ticked)
Choose OK
Create a temporary directory on your hard disk
Open drivers.cab in the I386 directory of Windows XP CD with a utility
like Winzip
Extract a3d.dll and a3dapi.dll to the temporary directory
Extract adm8810.sys to the temporary directory
(If using Vortex Advantage based sound card)
Extract adm8820.sys to the temporary directory
(If using Vortex 1 based sound card)
Extract adm8830.sys to the temporary directory
(If using Vortex 2 based sound card)
Rename driver.cab in Windows\Driver Cache\i386
directory to driver.cat
Delete a3d.dll, a3dapi.dll, adm8810.sys, adm8820,sys and adm8830.sys
files from Windows\system32\dllcache directory
Copy a3d.dll, a3dapi.dll and adm8810.sys/adm8820.sys/adm8830.sys file
from temporary directory to Windows\system32\ directory
If Windows XP asks for the Windows XP CD choose Cancel and keep the
unrecognised files
Rename driver.cat in Windows\Driver Cache\i386 directory back to
driver.cab
Reboot system |
