Lots of soft focus and deliberate pixelation give this short film a very dreamy feel. Opens with the noise of a film projector and then Kiyo drops some coins at a womans feet, which for some reason is a very ominous sound. Then they are driving along in a 1950's car and outfits to match (although all you ever see of the woman is her calves and stilletto clad feet...a reference to Miike perhaps XD..). There is a very sweet song on the radio which is interupted by the somewhat incongruous noise of a mobile phone. Cut to scenes of a lake from the pov of someone in the prow of a rowing boat..then Kiyo is running along a road, the car behind him and the actual song finally starts. You see him waiting with his wilted roses, and finally rowing out on to the lake and attempting to drown a shop dummy.
The actual song is gorgeous, and the film is beautifully made and the two go together perfectly. I was a little disconcerted by the way the song is broken in half, by an instrumental with voice over by both a woman and presumably Kiyo. Acck maybe if they'd given us a wav file as well. I mean pretty pictures are nice but it's a bit sad when the music comes second...I wouldn't care if I didn't love the song so much...

AURORA

In the direction a finger brightly pointed, there’s a sky of darkness
Don’t forget, one day, you’ll find that dream you waited for
When I look in that direction, there’s such darkness that I can’t even see the sky
That disappointment in front of the mirror, becomes one dream
On a day where the stars fall, it’s possible to touch just the edge of that dream
Today there should be spiraling winds that tear the night sky
There should be a gentle draping curtain
I’ll fall into a deep sleep
It hasn’t been seen yet, but it’s beautiful
A scene that awakens a deep sleep
A sad aurora at the end of winter
