Stephen Fry - "On Side" Monday, 21-Jun-1999 19:03:45 195.92.194.19 writes: Stephen made a surprise appearance on the BBC sports discussion show "On Side" tonight. This is normally reserved for sporting stars and legends, but as a celebrity cricket fan, he was on to talk about the World Cup final. He also discussed Wimbledon, which is happening here at the moment. He arrived to sit alongside Martina Navratilova after she finished talking about her distinguished career on the tennis circuit and told of how he used to get out of playing games at school. As an asthmatic, he said he would "look for dust" in order to suffer attacks, and he also became very good at forging notes from other schoolteachers "Stephen is helping me in the music room so he can't do PE today" was among the many he managed. He also said he wasn't too good at tennis because he wasn't so keen on having to bend his knees. He also never understood the phrase "keep your eye on the ball" which he took to believe as some form of extraction of the eyeball! As ever, he was in sparkling form.
