The idea behind
this web page was threefold:
So I could view my model railway layouts, locos and wagons in an
organized way and possibly share the fun with others.
Somewhere for me to put my most popular links to other sites, as I am
forever wiping them out on my own PC.
With my thinking being that they may be a bit more secure and organized
if on a web page out of my direct daily access.
To learn more about creating content for this big World Wide Web of
ours.
I actually
work in the “IT” industry in looking after some of the machines that are behind
most of those PC’s on everyone’s desks at work. What I am doing here with my own web page, is totally different
to my normal work and is a bit of a challenge.
I have to stumble along like everyone else has to, as I am only a
beginner in this arena (and now probably have less hair than a month ago).
For those
who are interested, these pages are being developed using Microsoft Word 2000
and it’s built in templates, with my PC running under Windows 2000. I am just cutting and pasting away after
having generated the original pages and structure using the Web Page
Wizard. I am testing the pages with
both Netscape Communicator 4.7 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01. I utilize FTP Explorer 1.0 for connecting to
my ISP for uploading and downloading my pages and files.
All photos
have been taken with a Kodak DC265
digital camera. Most shots utilize
available light and 2 small 100 W spot lights and no flash. Any photo enhancement does not go beyond
adjusting the brightness/contrast or highlight/midtone/shadow. I use Photoshop 5.03 for all photo
manipulations.
I was
introduced to model railways at about the age of six when my parents bought a
Fleischmann HO set for my little brother and myself. My dad spent a lot of time setting it up, and maintaining it, for
us kids. As it seems to always go, I lost interest in it by mid-high school,
but have come back to it in the last three years. The old layout has also been taken out of mothballs and cleaned
up by my dad for use by my little nephew when he comes over to stay at dad’s
place. I’ve got to say they sure made
them pretty good back then, because the set and locos are now over 30 years old
and still running strong, even after my brother and I ran them off the layout
many a time at high speed onto the floor, three feet below.
My general
plan for my model railways, is to be generic.
There is no particular period or location in mind. I have steam and modern diesel-electric
co-existing. Mind you, I do try to not
mix them too much during running sessions.
I am
concentrating on N Scale due to space restrictions. I figure that with N Scale, I can fit a lot more into a smaller
area, yet still be manageable.
The first N
Scale layout, I acquired through the generosity of a long time friend,
Peter. The second N Scale layout is a
“work in progress” which needs much “work” and a lot of “progress” to be done. I am also very slow at “getting around” to
doing anything; I could almost be classed as an armchair modeler – something I
hope to fix soon...
